Tia Wilhelm’s paintings, collages, drawings, and multimedia works document her journey to reconcile the overwhelming presence of heartbreak and injustice in the world, and simultaneous existence of beauty, connection, strength, and joy. Experimental works that span oil and acrylic paint, pastels, recycled materials, collage, and writing combine explorations of color and texture, as well as representational faces and bodies that document specific emotional experiences. Energy filled brush strokes offer insight into a process riddled and robust with insecurity, confidence, pure happiness, deep mourning, and love. As Tia works, she seeks pockets of harmony and balance amidst chaos and confusion. Wilhelm brings abstract and representational elements into conversation with one another, grasping for the story that lives so deep in the physical it becomes spiritual.
